Proust Questionnaire - Malik Kitchen

EMD nods its head to Vanity Fair and uses the Proust Questionnaire to find out a little more about Artist-of-the-Month, Malik Kitchen.

Which living person do you most admire? I hold my mother at the highest regard and I have more respect for her than I have for any other human being on this earth. She is one of the strongest, most beautiful people, inside and out, that I have ever known. Anyone who. Knows my mother knows how much of a sweetheart she is. She's my biggest fan.

What is your greatest fear? Living a purposeless life or living a life without contributing to the world in a positive way.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Mental, physical, spiritual, emotional, and financial stability.

What is your current state of mind? In this moment- hungry. In life- driven and ambitious.

Which talent would you most like to have? I'd most like to have a talent in visual art. Specifically drawing, painting, and design. It's all so fascinating to me. I'd love to create and wear all of my own clothes.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? I consider my greatest achievement not becoming another statistic and not letting things like circumstance, environment or background keep me from pursuing my goals and my highest potential.

What is your greatest extravagance? Oh I have so many! Shopping, dining, dessert, and wine would have to be the top four. Also, I wouldn't consider them an extravagance, but I am obsessed with candles! All shapes and sizes!

What is your most treasured possession? I don't own anything super sentimental like a family heirloom or something passed down to me from generations before. I do have a white gold bracelet that my parents gave me that I wear a lot. I also have a photograph of my favorite ballet by Jiri Kylian, 'Bella Figura', hanging on my wall. These are 2 objects that I adore. Also my Bible.

What is your motto? YOLO haha. I don't say it anymore and when I did, I said it as a joke. But, it really is a true statement. You do only live once.

You're stuck on an island, but you can ask for 3 items to be delivered to you...what do you ask for? A lighter- so I can make a fire to cook and stay warm at night. A book- so I won't get bored. My phone- so I can call for help! After enjoying this escape from civilization, that is.

Stay tuned for a Proust Questionnaire from each of our artists every month!
