EMD and the CUNY Dance Initiative

For the first time ever, The City University of New York (CUNY) is hosting a residency program providing rehearsal and performance space to New York City choreographers and dance companies. Elisa Monte Dance is honored to be one of only twenty companies in the city taking part in the CUNY Dance Initiative (CDI), a program funded in part by the New York Community Trust and the Mertz Gilmore Foundation. Remounting "Feu Follet," a piece set to Cajun music, focusing on the history and culture of the Acadian people in their travels from France to Canada to Louisiana, EMD will also be providing master classes and open rehearsals to the college community. The company is excited to be partnering with the City College of New York (CCNY) for the CDI. What an amazing opportunity! Be sure to attend Elisa Monte Dance's culminating performance on October 23rd at 7pm at Aaron Davis Hall.

The CUNY Dance Initiative was developed in response to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation's 2010 report "We Make Do," which cited the critical need for affordable dance rehearsal space in New York City, and mentioned available performing arts centers and other spaces on CUNY campuses.
