EMD Welcomes Two New Staff Members

FRANCINE SHEFFIELD (Director of Development) started her dance career in New Jersey, where she was born and raised. She studied at New Jersey Ballet as well as Newark Community School of the Arts, where she received scholarships and graduated from Arts High School in Newark, NJ. She went to Montclair State University where she received her BFA in Dance Performance. Francine has an MA Performing Arts Administration from New York University, where she interned at IMG Artists as a Dance Division Representative in New York and ADAD (Association for Dance of the African Diaspora) as the Audience Development Specialist in London, England. She also studied abroad in Uganda, East Africa, for a cultural exchange of learning and teaching dance to underserved children. This past January, Francine debuted her company, Sheffield Global Arts Management (SGAM), a representation and consulting service for select established and emerging dance companies, with a focus on women and people of color.

DEMETRIUS SHIELDS (Administrative Associate), a Detroit native, began studying performing arts at the Marvin L. Winans Academy at age 7. A Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of the Arts with a BFA in Dance Education concentrated in Ballet, Demetrius was awarded the Promising Artists Scholarship. In addition, Demetrius has trained on full scholarship at The Ailey School, American Ballet Theater, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and the Joffrey Ballet Summer Intensives. He has had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Donald Byrd, Liz Lerman, Christopher Huggins, Louis Johnson, Ray Mercer, Cornelius Carter, Anthony Burrell, Kim Bears-Bailey, and William Forsythe, to name a few. Demetrius worked for Princess Cruises where he learned 13 show in one year aboard two ships. While working with the company, Demetrius traveled across the globe from Australia to Central America, visiting over 50 different cities worldwide. Additionally, he has performed as a Cagalle in the Theater By The Seas production of "Le Cage Aux Follies." Most recently, he took the stage for a second season with the Radio City Rockettes this past winter while on the National Tour of the Christmas Spectacular. Demetrius is currently studying part time for an MS in Arts Administration from Drexel University.
